About JoJo WhiteOne of the most underrated playmakers in the history of the NBA; JoJo White is more than just a legendary Boston Celtic. Known for his durability and discipline on the court, he also displays both of those attributes off the court. Mr. White’s involvement in the community is wide-spread. He is a motivational speaker to civic groups, corporations, colleges, commencement exercises, and youth organizations. In addition, Mr. White makes many appearances throughout the year to give recognition to both the young and old for various achievements. Mr. White is involved with many Boston Celtics community programs such as the Stay in School and Read to Achieve programs, which provide recognition and incentives for youth to heavily consider furthering their education. He continues to work in the Boston Celtic franchise as the Director of Special Projects and Community Involvement as well as taking on many other responsibilities.

On the court Mr. White was a warrior and people deemed him as the first “Iron Man” based solely on the fact of how durable he was. He played a full 82 game season for five straight years. Mr. White was known for his smooth jump shot, tenacious defense, excelling speed, and most importantly his leadership of the Boston Celtics. He graduated from Kansas University in 1969 with 1,268 points in his four years and in 2003 the Jayhawks retired his number ten jersey. In the 1968 Olympics, he helped lead the USA to the gold medal with a dazzling record of 9-0.
From there Mr. White entered the 1969 NBA Draft and was selected 9th overall by the Boston Celtics. The Celtics were in the re-building phase the first few years of Mr. White’s career resulting the sudden retirement of Bill Russell. However, the Celtics led by White, won two championships in three years in ’73-’74 and ’75-’76. White was named the NBA Finals Most Valuable Player in the 1976 finals. Mr. White was named to the NBA All-Star Team for seven straight years from 1971-1977. In game 5 of those finals, he played a stunning 60 minutes in what many consider to be one of the best games ever played, a 128-126 win by the Celtics. In 1979, White was traded to the Golden State Warriors and later retired in 1981. On Friday, April 9th, 1982 the Boston Celtics retired his legendary number 10 jersey and it can be seen hanging from the rafters at the TD Garden today.
